“Survival of the fittest “is the law of nature and the universe. Best adapted to their environment are the most successful in surviving and reproducing Healthy.
“To live healthy and die healthy”, to choose the right path is our own intellect.
Healthy Adaptation is the Key
The concept of “Survival of the Fittest” doesn’t solely emphasize physical strength. Rather, it’s about adapting successfully to one’s environment. It’s the ability to thrive and survive in a given context, whether that’s through physical resilience, mental agility, or other forms of adaptability.
By working with the body’s natural tendencies and overcoming limitations, individuals can cultivate greater flexibility of muscles to gain strength, and overall well-being.
Yogashtra is primarily a spiritual discipline that concentrates on the subtle science of the universe that focuses on achieving harmony in our physical body as a vehicle to understand the secret of nature to enhance an individual’s mind- body – soul complex with intellect, to reach a higher state of consciousness.
So, to make it simple,
Yoga is to understand the secret behind nature with the vehicle of the body. that is governed by universal laws through our own physical body to enhance us at higher level consciousness. Physically, Physiologically, psychologically, intellectually, spiritually , genetically to be evolved, and state that is evolution to a high level of state of consciousness.
Remember, physical stability is vital for mental stability. Then you will understand why, in today’s lifestyle, mental disturbance is more and sad at children’s ages.
It is high time we must work in the right direction to save this devolution.
Yoga shatra described about Health and gives a guarantee:
Mahamuni Patanjali has not prescribed any name of Asana or described any particular pose. But all about, what exactly should happen in our body to bring ” Prayant Shaithilya” where the physical body at its ease , perfection consists of “beauty, grace, strength so outer forces , environment will not have any impact .”
Hatha yoga prescribed some poses that are higher level of poses – super human poses define ” Sheryam arogyam ch angalaghavam” In both these text physical stability- Shirata is vital to get arogyam, sukh awastha where all organ systems are in a harmonious state.
Lord Mahamuni Patanjali describes health as a prerequisite to evolve as a human being to be in a higher state of consciousness. Sutra described that Vyadhi – disease is the first distraction, obstacle. These will arise in our Asana practice. These are nine distractions of our own consciousness for any Asana – “Shira sukha asanam “
व्याधिस्त्यानसंशय प्रमादालस्याविरति भ्रान्तिदर्शनालब्ध भूमिकत्वानवस्थितत्वानि चित्तविक्षेपास्तेऽन्तराया: । Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, 1.30
The nine distractions (Vyadhi) mentioned in the Yoga Sutras, which can arise during Asana practice, are:
1. Vyadhi – illness , diseases
2. Styana – Apathy, lack of interest and enthusiasm, boredom ,
In times of constant stimulation and searching for the next big thing and new experiences, many practitioners find that their initial excitement around the yoga practice fades and is replaced with the dull state of having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone.
Mental stagnation , Mental stagnation refers to a state where our mind feels:
– Stuck
– Uninspired
– Unmotivated
– Unchallenged
– Bored
It’s like a mental plateau where we are not learning, growing, or feeling engaged. Your thoughts, ideas, and creativity seem to be stagnant, and we might feel disconnected from our passions and interests.
Imagine a river that’s stopped flowing; the water becomes stale and stagnant. Similarly, mental stagnation can make us feel like you’re not moving forward, and our mind is not refreshed or revitalized.
3. Samśaya – Doubt – distrust, mistrust, suspicion (savshay) in intentions or actions– Distrust is a feeling of suspicion, uncertainty, or lack of confidence in our own practice or a situation. It’s a negative emotional state that can lead to:
4 . Pramada / carelessness-21st Century life: distraction, distraction, distraction! As a society we are almost pre-conditioned to become distracted and in the process careless with our practice. Life has many offerings, time becomes difficult to balance between career, relationships, health, family, etc. Sometimes we forget to practice.Intoxication and addictions also fall under this hindrance. With so much stimulating our minds, sometimes we look to numb our own thoughts and escape the noise, one would imagine that yoga would be the ideal refuge. But, even during a yoga practice this obstacle rears its head usually in the form of frustrations and irritable states, where it feels futile to try and quiet the monkey mind. Set aside times for practice, remove all possible distractions and instead of fighting the distracted mind, let it run free; without attaching to thoughts, notice how the mind jumps from one thing to another. Eventually, like a busy toddler, it will start to tire or fatigue and a stronger focus can resume. To overcome negligence , failure to watchful or fullness or lack of foresight. Awareness, Self-discipline and responsibility with proper Planning and preparation is essential to overcome this stage.
5. Alasya (आलस्य) Burnout, Heaviness , laziness –
Burnout is a common cause of this hurdle. Physical or mental fatigue, Lethargy or lack of energy, Indolence or aversion to effort, Sluggishness, or dullness.
6. Avirati (अविरति),Sensual indulgence – This is where some outside sensory object seduces the mind away from one’s goals and progress, the effect is one of stagnation and even agitation.
It is important to remember that all of these cravings eventually subside. All sensations are temporary, they arise, often increase in intensity and then they pass away giving rise to the next. One merely needs to ride out the wave.
lack of control over desires. Lack of self-regulation or self-discipline,
Overindulgence in sensual pleasures, Uncontrolled anger or aggression, Excessive attachment to material possessions or additions, Unhealthy habits or addictions, Impulsive decisions, or reckless behaviours.
7. Bhranti Darshana, Misconception (भ्रान्तिदर्शन) – False views or misconceptions. Illusions or distorted Misleading, Misunderstandings or misinterpretations. Wrong or inaccurate assumptions. Deluded thinking or confused understanding
Bhranti Darshana can arise from:
– Limited knowledge or incomplete information
– Biased or preconditioned thinking
– Emotional or mental distortions
– Sensory illusions or misperceptions
– Lack of critical thinking or discernment
In spiritual contexts, Bhranti Darshana can refer to:
– Misconceptions about the nature of reality
– Wrong understanding of spiritual principles or teachings
– Deluded beliefs or superstitions
– Misinterpretation of spiritual experiences or phenomena
8. Alabdhabhumikatva , Lack of perseverance (अलब्धभूमिकत्व) –
Doubting progress and ability to succeed. inability to persist or consistent efforts or inability to establish a steady foundation Lack of perseverance.
Lack of consistent spiritual practice or effort
– Insufficient self-purification or emotional cleansing
– Inadequate understanding or misinterpretation of spiritual teachings
– External distractions or unfavourable environment
– Inner obstacles
9. Anavasthitatva (अनवस्थितत्व) –
With a consistent, focussed and regular practice one can indeed equip oneself with the mental skills to overcome one’s deepest challenges, and to further one on a path of becoming the best version of oneself, with all intentions fully realized.
With a well-rounded and grounded authentic teaching, one realizes how vast this ancient tradition spans. There is so much more than just contorting the body into supernatural shapes and breathing in often uncomfortable ways. It is through the process of navigating these physical and mental puzzles, that we are able to connect with various aspects that make us up.
Instability .
Instability or fluctuation of the mind, regression
– Lack of mental balance or equilibrium
– Unsteadiness or wavering of thoughts and emotions
– Difficulty in maintaining a calm and peaceful state
– Tendency to be easily disturbed or distracted.
Mental restlessness or agitation
– Emotional turmoil or mood swings
– Difficulty in concentrating or focusing
– Impulsiveness or reckless behaviour
– Feeling overwhelmed or stressed
For overcoming these obstacles, we should follow
For overcoming these obstacles, we should follow
“Atha yoga-anushasanam” with
Sa tu dīrgha kāla nairantarya satkārā seviti drudabhumi “ to achieve “Sthira sukham asanam “ that means rouphly, postures should be physically stable and comfortable at ease. Note,we just can’t achieve this stability holding the pose with tightening or stiff muscular architecture. It is the balance between “effort” and “ease.” with universal sequential order of flow of voluntary media with the right direction. So to achieve physical stability for a longer span of time with ease, intent and strength further to the stillness of the mind Consciousness to further achieve a higher state of enlightenment.
“prayatna-śaithilya-ananta-samāpatti-bhyām”.
Letting go of all efforts to get tune with the Universe and following its physical laws and uniting with the infinite. Any discomfort will lead the body and mind to become agitated, and so as the breath will be agitated. Therefore, we must first find comfort and ease in the asana state in the day to day routine, and in any pose it becomes easier to be in it . We are active and feel the muscles and the connective tissue soften , relax balance , equilibrium of spaces, and forces in the harmonious state of Sukha . When the mind is calm, we settle the body and let go of any effort to “perform” the asana.
That state is “tataḥ dvandva-anabhighātaḥ anantasamapattibyama ”. So that any outside force will not affect this state of being .
Therefore, at the stage of Yama , Niyam, and Asana, we have to enhance our health first at physical, physiological, psychological, and intellectual states for further higher states of spiritual and genetic level.
To achieve Health:
We have to follow universal laws with their rules and regulations . To understand the naturalization of other species and our own beings in our physical form. if we do not follow, then distorsion is bound to happen at an early age unnaturally.
Memory programming of ancient memory of muscles which are in coded form which we have to encode consciously in our Conscious brain – big brain :
Memories stored in our ancient brain :
In our ancient brain, there is stored memory of muscles in a coded form sequence of order with a formless state. It has the data structure of our muscular architecture and program for how to perform a movement and steps with some rules to follow. These voluntary muscles have a sequence of order in specific directions with their flow of movement. At stages of infants, these steps with sequential order of flow get unwound (we should not disturb them), and then that goes into automation. We have not learned this imbibed specific sequential order with the direction of synchronized flow.
Therefore, in “Asana” that is Akrutibandha, we have to learn these movements of muscles with conscious efforts. So we can remember these sequences in our conscious brain, and then we can do almost anything.
Human beings’ developmental span is longer than other animals, so at this period, it is essential and important to enhance our naturalization at early stages of development before learning physical skills like sports or art.
Therefore, in “Asan” we have to follow these sequences of order and flow with specific instructions from expertise guidance to perform any pose.
If we want to programme our memory in our Conscious brain – big brain, the first requisite is that there should be no distraction ” worship” in the posture neither by the pain nor by any other outer stimulus. By prolonging the duration of the asana for a prolonged period of time to get physiological and psychological improvement with continuous sequential order in the flow of muscular architecture so then we can actually program our memory for long terms. After some time, this will automatically change the setting of the autonomic nervous system.
Once we get mastery ” asan dhrudata” and win the pose that is watched and work within to get the wisdom further to worship to win the pose, then only it will be stored in Smruti kosha With this memory programming, we can almost do anything – like programming robots to help with household chores or even programming self-driven cars like Tesla.
For memory programming, the exact instructions that will tell voluntary muscles what exact efforts to make to perform a particular pose and movement in any task given to them is body language.
When we talk about programming, think of something like a remote control for your TV – it will wait for you to give it instructions by pressing different buttons which then tell the TV to perform a specific task like changing the channel, increasing the volume, and so on. Well, this is the same way programmers can instruct a computer to do various things.
Let’s understand how our physical laws govern our own body and what the pathway is to get in tune with the Universe and work accordingly under the guidance of me.
I am trying to explain this in a simpler way, which I strictly follow in my own practice and teach.
Learn with expert guidance and on your own efforts with regular follow-up sessions to improve levels.
