Supta Baddha Konasana / Goddess Pose / Baby Pose 

You have seen new born babies lying in this position which is the most basic and natural pose in human spices. In a mother’s womb, a baby lies in knee elbow pose with anterior flexion and compression of all body cavities that start expanding and opening. It gives the baby’s inner organ systems enough space to function properly. Therefore, this is imbibed in a baby’s brain and the dominance is very strong even after the baby is born.

Because we have not learned these developmental stages intellectually, these get distorted and degenerated once we grow up. Moreover, we get stuck in automation and reflex action. This has resulted in hardening of our soft tissues with distortion of open and close spaces, and now we need to relearn this pose intellectually. It’s very safe as we are not abusing or missing any joints here. 

Even though this pose looks simple, it needs practice and focus to go deeper and master it. Prolonged period of waiting is necessary to get the associated physiological benefits.
